Chiellini told “Sky Sport Italia” that it is impossible to talk about football after what happened, emphasizing that Kalulu’s red card due to a phantom contact with Bastoni is a blatant indication that the level of refereeing does not meet the standards of Serie A, and that it is time to change the VAR protocol, which remains powerless against second yellow cards regardless of how serious the mistake is.
The tension extended to coach Luciano Spalletti, who refused to appear in the media out of sheer frustration, leaving the task to the management to convey the club’s voice. Chiellini stated, “If Gianluca Rocchi always claims he will leave, let’s see now if he will really do it, because the group he leads is not functioning properly,” according to the German news agency.
